Palma de Mallorca is the capital and largest city of the Balearic Islands. Mallorca, known as the “Island of Tranquility,” has a landscape as varied as its history. Founded by the Romans, later settled by the Arabs, then conquered by the Spanish, the island is host to all sorts of architectural wonders. Visit the Old City to see the Arab Baths or travel to the old fishing village on the edge of town to view the ancient windmills of Es Jonquet. Marvel at La Seu, the cathedral built on the site of a Moorish mosque and boasting the highest nave of all Gothic cathedrals, while you saunter along the Parc de la Mer.
